Travel Hacks: United’s New Feature - Where to Fly on Any Budget
United Airlines has come up with an AWESOME new feature called “Budget Search”. In case you’re like me, sitting at home, wondering how I can possibly go EVERYWHERE in 2021, but also be able to pay rent and eat and all of that good stuff, Budget Search actually seems really helpful.
Basically, you fill in how much you’re willing to spend and United shows you all the places you could afford to fly.
How does it work?
All you have to do is:
- Fill in your travel budget
- Note when you want to travel (or leave it open)
- Filter by interests if you want (Love beaches? National Parks? Romantic getaways after spending 8 months in your 1 bedroom apartment in New York?)
- Watch all the places you can go appear on the map!

Great!
Scenario 1:
- Budget: $1000
- Dates: August 1-8 (hopefully we’ll have a vaccine by then and countries will have eased travel restrictions)
- Interests: Beaches
Where can you go?
- $219 to lay in the sun at San Juan’s Condado beach
- $373 to the Cayman Islands (pretty sure all I know about this place I’ve learned from bank heist movies)
- $489 to relax in Montego Bay in Jamaica
Scenario 2:
- Budget: $500
- Dates: August 1-8
- Interests: National Parks
Where can you go?
- $297 to jet off to Colorado to spot moose in Rocky Mountain National Park
- $362 to land in Calgary and visit Banff or Waterton national parks
- $481 to explore the Arches from Salt Lake City
Scenario 3:
- Budget: $250
- Dates: August 1-8
- Interests: Anything, just get me somewhere
Where can you go?
- $187 to visit Stone Mountain Park or the Georgia aquarium in Atlanta
- $197 to really live it up in New Orleans (though you may drown in humidity)
- $247 to feel the Miami sand between your toes
TL;DR
I like it because it takes the guesswork out of my initial screening to understand where I even could afford to go. This way, I can look at what my options actually are and plan away.
